Dinner on the Farm
The sun is shining, daffodils are blooming and the sky is a brilliant blue… and it’s February 29th. After several days of rain, cold and gray heavy skies, I’m not complaining one bit. In fact, these amazing blue skies have me thinking of the mid-summer day last year that we enjoyed our first CSA “Dinner on the Farm.”
The sky looked the same as today, flowers colorfully filled pots all around the house and the grass was a bit greener and freshly mowed with that delightful smell that rewards your hard work. The patio was filled to the brim with tables and chairs rustically adorned and ready to receive our Black Twig Farms CSA friends.
We happen to be blessed — for reelz — with daughters and sons-in-law who are creative, multi-talented, hard-working and all-in — especially for events on the farm. Dani, daughter #1, researched recipes that would utilize items from the garden and put together an awesome Pinterest page for us to work from. We narrowed down the choices and ended up with this menu:
Course 1: Cheese/Meat/Fruit Plate
Course 2: Chilled Curried Squash Soup
Course 3: Buttered Radish Bites, Cucumber Feta Boats and a Beet & Cheese Terrine
Course 4: Salad with Green Goddess Dressing, Mashed Potato Waffles, BTF Brisket
Course 5: Layered Blackberry Shortcake
Special Cocktail: Black Twig Smash
As I sat down to recall this menu, I remember how much work went into the process. Yikes! Dani and her husband, Sean, along with Jess, daughter #2, and her husband, Justin, chopped, peeled, smashed, cooked, plated and delivered courses like a BOSS! All while laughing and having a great time… and still had energy for the clean-up. Love ‘em! (Jaclyn, daughter #3, totally would have been all in if she’d been in town that weekend.)
We enjoyed spending time over the delicious courses visiting with old friends and getting to know new ones. Here’s to CSA “Dinner on the Farm” 2016! We can’t wait to sit at that table and share a meal with y’all.
